The British TV has just shown the documentary dealing with those who believe in the Third Tower Conspiracy. I found the position of such believers extraordinary and clearly immune to logical argument. The idea that you could lock hundreds of New York firemen into a conspiracy that had killed so many of their own is frankly laughable. I do have one insight to offer. Several months ago the New York review of Books carried an article about Alexander the Great. The point was made in it that every large nation AtG conquered has a legend that his father was one of their own. These are all totally false and should be read as a coping strategy for dealing with the unpalatable fact that an alien culture had overwhelmed their own. So, too, on a lesser scale, with the entirely fanciful notion that the US government or its agents were the real architects of 9/11.
